Passive solar design principles are intrinsic to all building designed by Ande Bunbury Architects. Our use of passive solar design techniques aims to maximise a building’s energy efficiency, reducing its reliance on artificial heating and cooling systems, and thereby reducing the volume of greenhouse gas emissions being produced. Our buildings are correctly oriented to incorporate passive solar heating, are well insulated and have internal thermal mass to store winter warmth.

Roof forms are designed to provide potential for solar powered systems such as hot water and energy generation, either now or in the future. Windows and doors are provided with appropriate sun protection and located for good cross ventilation and natural lighting. Water collection and landscaping is masterplanned to add multiple benefits to the building such as adding thermal mass or pre-cooling air before it enters the building.
