Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) is core to the architectural services provided by Ande Bunbury Architects. Buildings designed by ABA limit energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions using natural resources such sunlight, wind and water to keep the building cool in summer and warm in winter.
We incorporate into our buildings systems such as active and passive use of thermal mass to minimize heating and cooling requirements, night sky cooling, solar heating and cooling such as transpired solar air heaters and solar air panels, on site power generation, day lighting and shading, solar hot water, natural ventilation techniques such as thermal chimneys and stack ventilation.

Water is treated as a precious resource and collected on site for reuse. We are experienced in the on-site treatment of greywater and blackwater. Materials are selected for low embodied energy (including recycled materials), local provenance, durability and low toxicity.
